Former Deacon in Residence

Deacon Erik came to Christ Church Harrison in August of 2012 after serving for many years as a Hospital Chaplain and as the Deacon of Christ Hospital, Jersey City, New Jersey. He moved on from us here at Christ Church in September of 2016 and is very much missed.

He is a cradle Episcopalian who received his sacraments at Christ Church Ridgewood and was ordained to the Vocational Diaconate by the Right Reverend Mark M Beckwith on December 15th, 2007 at All Saints’ Church, Glen Rock, New Jersey. Deacon Erik currently serves on Diocesan Staff as the Program Director of NEWARK ACTS (the Diocese of Newark’s Episcopal Service Corps Program).

Deacon Soldwedel brings to Harrison a commitment to serve marginalized communities and a passion for congregational growth and development. He has served in the Diocese of Newark for ten years as a consultant assisting congregations with Mutual Ministry Reviews; Ministry Planning; Vestry Retreat Facilitation and Conflict Resolution.

He studied Public Administration at Ramapo College and his Diaconal Studies were done at the Newark School of Theology. If you ask him his joy is found in being with people and connecting them to one another in purpose; mission and ministry. He brings to ministry a long and varied career that began with public service as a Consumer Advocate in the administration of Thomas Kean in 1981.

Deacon Erik owned and worked in a family Elevator Business in Ridgewood, NJ, and after selling his shares he went onto a successful career in the Wine and Liquor Business. His passion was Italian wines and maintains several friendships in the industry here in the US and Italy. In 2010 he left his Wine & Liquor Brokerage to be engaged in full time ministry.

Deacon Soldwedel is married to Linda Aprile and they reside in Hawthorne, New Jersey with their Lhasa-Poodle Winnie. Rumor has it when on vacation you will either find Deacon Erik reading under an umbrella on the beach or flying a kite along the shoreline.
